The Anti-TBR Tag | Books I Won’t Be Reading

It’s been forever since I’ve done a book tag! I came across this super interesting “Anti-TBR Tag” recently and I simply had to do it! You’re Anti-TBR is basically a list of books you won’t be reading, like… ever. We always talk about the books we read and loved, but we never really speak about the books we don’t want to read. It’s better to spend our time on positivity, right? Anti-TBRs aren’t necessarily negative, though. So today I’m answering the questions of the Anti-TBR tag!

The Anti-TBR Tag was originally created on BookTube by Nicole & Her Books!

1. A popular book everyone loves that you have no interest in reading?

Ahh, what an awful question to start with! I actually had to think about it long and hard and, well… I’m going to disappoint y’all! Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief was such a disappointment to me, it put me off the entire series. I guess the movies gave me expectations that the book didn’t live up to and then I was like ‘meh‘. And honestly, that’s a shame! I should pick it up again, shouldn’t I?

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

This is a difficult question to answer as I don’t really have an interest in classics in general. I tried for a while but I never got around to reading any of them. There are some really popular (and beautiful!) editions of classics I might want to read someday, but I’m mostly not interested. I don’t have any specific titles or authors on my anti-tbr, though!

3. A (problematic) author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I can’t really talk about problematic authors because honestly, I couldn’t name any if my life depended on it. Or actually… There are a few, but I read their books already so I’m not sure it counts? Anyway, I combined these two questions. An author whose work I’m not interested in is Samantha Shannon. Please, don’t even ask me why because I genuinely don’t know. So many people seem to love The Bone Season and The Priory of the Orange Tree, but I’ll pass, thank you very much.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I actually can’t think of any! This probably has to do with the fact that I’m super picky and only pick up books I know I’ll enjoy. There are exceptions, of course; sometimes I find books that just aren’t for me after all. I haven’t discovered any authors whose books aren’t for me, though. I stopped reading The Vampire Diaries series a long time ago because I didn’t like them anymore, but apparently, it was written by a ghostwriter after the original books. Guess that doesn’t really count, it being a different author and all, right?

5. A genre you have no interest in or a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

Reading The Damned by Renée Adieh made me realized I’m not really into the whole supernatural, vampires vs werewolf thing anymore. I used to be obsessed with vampire stories, but I’ve lost interest! The same goes for Dystopian. Other than that, I’m into pretty much everything. It often depends on my mood, though.

6. A book you have bought but will never read?

There are some Dutch editions of books I bought on sale or that I’ve gotten at events that I probably won’t ever get to. Birthday by Meredith Russo, Match by Buddy Tegenbosch, and The Grace Year by Kim Liggett are on my shelf just collecting dust… It’s kind of sad but I’ve got 2 out of 3 at an event with no intention of reading and I found the other one on sale at a garden center and bought on a whim of excitement. Not my best moment, hahah…

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

I mentioned The Vampire Diaries already, so I’ll go for another one: the House of Night series by P.C. & Kristin Cast. This series is absolutely humongous! So many books, oh my goodness! I actually read maybe like half the series one summer? I read them on my old iPod Touch during a holiday but when I got back home, I lost track of my progress, so I never picked it up again.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

Hmm… Good one! At the moment: A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. Shocker, I know! I’m obsessed with the ACOTAR trilogy and there’s this hype around ACOSF but I’m just totally not interested? We had to wait so long for this book, and then the entire series got a cover redesign which I hate, sorry – not sorry! Maybe in a few months, I’ll think differently but as of right now, it’s a no for me!

That’s my Anti-TBR! Any books I should reconsider? What’s on your Anti-TBR? Let’s chat!
