The Bookish Bulletin: August ’19 | Where Did Time Go?!

Guys…! Where the frick did August go?! Like… Wasn’t it July just yesterday? I’m literally just… blown away. So much has happened this month and I guess that’s the main reason this month has just flown by? I have so much to tell you! Most of it is probably work-related, and I don’t have many bookish things to say, I guess. Let’s just dive straight in!

August Wrap Up… Erm, Current Reads!

Confession time: I didn’t finish a single book this month. I tried my best, but like I said, August flew by and I was just so busy. I probably could’ve finished a book or three, but it just didn’t happen this month. Here’s what I’m currently reading, though!

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He. I bought this book on a whim last month and I think I’m starting to get into it but also… not? If I were really into it, I probably would’ve finished it weeks ago, but I didn’t. It’s not the book, though, it’s 100% me! I really do have to finish it in September!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I LOVED Daisy Jones & the Six so it was only a matter of time before I decided to pick it up. I got it from Audible like I got Daisy Jones and I’m enjoying it so much. Unfortunately, like Descendant of the Crane, I’m just. so. slooooooowwww. I really don’t know what’s up with that! I should just start listening right away.

Blog Update

When it comes to the blog, I don’t really have an update, I guess. This month definitely wasn’t as eventful as the last. Which is okay. I’m a little sad time just got away from me. I do have content to finish and publish! I just couldn’t find the time to work on it and actually do all the things I feel like I should be doing. My blog is constantly on my mind, and I have some really fun ideas, too. Hopefully, September will be a better month for books and blogging!

Life Update

Last month, my mental health took a real bad hit. The worst of it actually happened towards the end of July (I wrote about it a tiny little bit last month, but didn’t really mention how bad I actually felt.) and I guess it just dragged on well into August. But then it took a turn for the better. Oh my GOSH, you guys. This month, even through the struggle, I think it was actually the best.

Some amazing things have been happening at work. I tweeted about it for a little bit this past week, but I just want to share it here again. Work has been a touchy subject for me for quite a long time. I love my job so, so much but there were some things that I was really insecure about, and I’ve been carrying the weight of those worries with me without truly knowing how heavy they were. I’ve talked about them, and that has put things into motion I never expected to happen. I’m going to be an assistant pharmacist, I’ll be getting more responsibilities and I’ll even be in charge of the store on Sundays in the future. AAHHH!! And you know what, it isn’t as scary as I thought it’d be! Plus, I’m just so incredibly excited to learn all these new things!

I’ve been working 30/40 hours a week at work this past month, so it’s been a busy, busy month. Besides work, I’ve been to a PVRIS concert in Haarlem, had a scooter driving intest/intake to get my license (it flopped, unfortunately.) and I went back to college two final days to work as a promo student during the introduction for new students, which was fun! During the little bit of free time I’ve had, I’ve been watching Glee on Netflix, sleeping (I can finally sleep in again during weekends!) and playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses on my Switch and I’m honestly obsessed. It’s so fun!

Book Haul

I only bought two books this month! I bought quite a lot last month and I didn’t get to them, so I didn’t really feel the urge to buy new books yet. I bought City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab (finally!) and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik both from Book Depository with a 10% discount. They’re both paperbacks, and Spinning Silver “matches” with my edition of Uprooted, which I’m way too excited about, hehe!

September TBR

Although I didn’t finish a single book from my August TBR, I’m changing my TBR for September. I’m going to try and make it as ‘easy’ for myself as possible, no pressure. Not that I felt any last month, but I might make it easier on myself if I just focus on reading whatever I feel like.

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab. I love, love, love Victoria’s books and I’ve been wanting to pick this one up for a while. It’s probably the least ‘intimidating’ book I’ve got lying around so I really want to pick it up as soon as I’m finished with my current reads.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. I just realised I’m meeting Victoria next month and I had a slight panic attack because OH MY GOODNESS I’M MEETING VICTORIA NEXT MONTH?! Obviously, I’ve read this one already (1.5 times to be exact) and I really want to read it again before I meet her. Plus, I haven’t read the bonus content in the collector’s edition yet!
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. The Barnes & Noble collector’s edition has been sitting on my shelf ever since I bought it when it just came out and oh my god, I’ve been wanting to read it soooooo incredibly bad. I just wanted to read ADSOM again first and that didn’t happen either, so I guess this month’s finally the time to do it?! I’m pretty much declaring September “Schwab Month”, hehe!
