Happy New Year | This Will Be My Best Year Yet!

Hey there! Hiya! Hello! Yes, yes, I’m still very much alive and breathing. I can’t remember the last time I blogged and I’m over a week late, but… HAPPY NEW YEAR! Last year sure was quite something, huh? I feel weird when I say 2020 was almost my best year so far – if it wasn’t for Covid. We’re not in the clear yet and it breaks my heart that my country’s in lockdown at the start of the year, but I’m trying to make the best of it! I know most things don’t really go according to plan, and we have no clue what 2021 brings, but I want to share some of my goals, hopes, and dreams anyway…

2020 was such a crazy year. It didn’t start so great for me but took some big, life-changing steps for my mental health and the year took a turn for the better. Because of my medication, – which I wrote a little bit about last year – I went to a work training stress-free, I had one of the best days ever in Rotterdam and attended two concerts for one of which I actually slept in a hotel in Amsterdam!! I was having the best time of my life, honestly. Then not long after that concert, the pandemic started. Thank goodness my store didn’t have to close at all so I could still go to work, but it was hard. Customers could be very difficult and there have been a lot of changes in staff and management. Last year was a rollercoaster in both my personal and my work life, for sure.

2021; A Fresh Start

Even though there’s no way to really start over – especially when we’re still very much in the middle of this pandemic – January 1st marked a fresh start for me. Usually, I spend the days in between Christmas and New Year’s making plans, thinking of resolutions, setting goals. This time, though, I didn’t. 2021 just (still) seems like one giant black hole. New Year’s Eve always makes me a bit nervous. Every time I go to bed on new years, I’d feel this soul-crushing weight on me. I used to get so worked up over failing to reach my goals, not knowing what would happen, just being terrified of the upcoming year. I realized that – without having set any goals – I felt so much better. After spending some lovely time with my mom, I went to bed and slept. No soul-crushing weight. No worries. I spend January 1st in a lazy daze, with no obligations, or to-do lists. Then on January 2nd, I suddenly felt like 2021 would be MY year. I’m at my happiest I’ve ever been, I feel mentally stable and I have the resources to work on goals I tried to reach years ago. I’m done trying, I’m going to start working towards reaching my goals. And I’m SO excited!

Live a Healthier Life

Notice I said I’ll be “working towards my goals”? I call them my “2021 Goals” because I hope to achieve them this year. But to be honest, I wouldn’t mind if I didn’t quite reach them come December. My first, most important goal is to lose weight and live a healthier life. I’m not ashamed to say I’m at my heaviest weight I’ve ever been. My terrible mental health for the past year(s) and the pandemic haven’t been kind to my body! I accepted my size and figure years ago, but it wouldn’t hurt to live a healthier life. I’ve picked up Weight Watchers again, I’m doing pilates daily and I want to start exercising more. Maybe I’ll even start going to the gym later this year? Who knows! This is probably my favorite goal because I know for a fact it’s reachable. Years ago, I did a diet and pilates and it worked miracles for my health and body. Due to my mental health, I quit, but I know I can do it!

Get a Promotion

I try to keep my work off my blog, as it seems like the most professional thing to do, but I do want to mention it anyway. I currently work as a sales assistant in a pharmacy and I love my job. I’ve been working there for three years and have been a supervisor for over a year now. I went through a lot of ups and downs, had so many insecurities and moments where I felt like quitting, but I really think I’ve gotten good at my job and I enjoy it so much. My store doesn’t have a 1st Sales Assistant anymore, so I really want to fill this position. I’m usually the kind of person to sit around and wait until it might happen, but I actually want this so bad, I’ve made it a goal for myself to make it happen.

Move Out

I’m 24 years old and it’s about damn time I got my own place to live! I’ve been daydreaming about my own place for quite a while now and I started buying kitchen appliances last summer. The list of things currently in my attic waiting to be used in my future home has become incredibly long, but my favorites are definitely my pink L’or Nespresso machine and Berlinger Haus stand mixer in black and rose gold! This is a goal that I have little control over, unfortunately. I signed up to rent a home one year ago, so I’m still on the waitlist. Unless I get lucky in a raffle, it could take to the end of the year or maybe even 2022 before I can get my own place. All I can do is save money for all the expenses I’ll need to make and buy more of the things I’ll eventually need at my own place. Even if I’m unable to actually rent an apartment this year, I do want to prepare myself and be like 90% ready for when I go finally get my home.

I’m so excited to work on my goals this year! Pilates is going great so far, I’ve been doing it for a week tomorrow! I’m sweating on my yoga mat every. single. morning. It’s so much fun to do! Other goals aren’t going as well yet, but we’re still only at the start of the year… Let’s do this!
