The Bookish Bulletin: August ’18 | What A Crazy Month!
Whew! How is it September already? I swear to the bookish gods I missed the last day of August? Not that being a few days late with my Bookish Bulletin is a crime, but I was surprised to find I hadn’t worked on it yet while I should’ve done that… Oops? Life has just been crazy! Anyway, I’ve got a lot to tell you, so let’s just dive right in.
August Wrap Up
These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch. I legit barely remember anything from the start of August… How!? I actually do remember reading TRW but I also don’t? So weird. Anyway, this one is so epic! I got an ARC through Edelweiss for the blog tour and it’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while.
The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King. Again, I barely remember ANYTHING. I think I actually quite liked this one? But I also feel like I skimmed the last bit. You know what? Read my review, it’ll make sense. I promise!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Oh boy! This is where my ToG reread starts! I read Throne of Glass for the fourth time this month and even though I have to agree with most in saying this wasn’t Sarah’s best book, it remains to be one of my all-time faves.
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. I decided to skip The Assassin’s Blade for now, although I might reread one of the stories before I start Tower of Dawn. I read CoM for the third time this year and I still love it so, so much. I broke my heart when I finished it because Heir of Fire is the one in which everything changes! Aahhh!
A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews. This book is unlike anything else I read this month, but oh my goodness – my heART! I literally finished it within four hours and I’m utterly obsessed. It was so beautiful!? And so heartbreaking?! And Cait writes so beautifully?! (If you don’t know Cait – HOW?!!? – check out her blog PaperFury!)
Legendary by Stephanie Garber. I finally ordered this one off Book Depository a while ago because I was nearly driven mad by anticipation for this book. I was super bummed out by not having a first print edition (with the hidden cover) but the actual story totally made up for it. Can you believe I accidentally spoiled myself even though I finished it within 12 hours?! I swear that only happens to me.
Favourite Posts
Picking just three favourite blog posts this month was super difficult. I love all of my content for very different reasons and narrowing it down to just three felt impossible this month? Anyway, I simply have to include my Goodreads Challenge update. I lowered my GR challenge and just had a good look at my reading so far. The photos I took for it are my absolute faves!
Next up, I’d like to share my How To Write A Review post. I’m no pro at writing reviews, but I love sharing tips & tricks and blogging advice. I’m also really loving the photos for this one! I just found a setup and theme that I love so much and I hope it doesn’t get boring to you guys!
Finally, I decided to share my post for the These Rebel Waves blog tour. Sara Raasch is one of my favourite authors and I felt so incredibly honoured to take part in the tour (on the second day, nonetheless!) she wrote a cute little “message in a bottle” and I got an ARC of the book as well, which I devoured. I can’t wait to share more of this book with you guys!
Blogging & Life Update
So much has happened this past month, I genuinely do not know where to start. When it comes to blogging, I’ve really changed things up. Not only in ways you can see, but also “behind the scenes.” I’ve started including more photos in my posts. Thanks, Gutenberg Editor! I started using plugins for galleries in some posts, but it was too time-consuming to do all the time. With WP’s new editor, it’s a piece of cake. I’m literally obsessed. I hope you like the photos! I’ve also changed in ways you can’t see. I used to plan and schedule posts months ahead, and I’m not doing that anymore. I was in this vicious cycle of working my butt off – slump/breakdown – working my butt off – working my butt off – breakdown… You get the point. Most of the time I slumped because I didn’t like the content I came up with a month before. It didn’t make me happy. Currently, I’m working on about five posts at a time or less. But never more. This way, I finish something I’m excited about before I move on to other exciting things.
As for my life… I’ve started going back to college! Introductions week was last week and even though I skipped a day (my social anxiety couldn’t handle it!) I had a blast. I really think there are some lovely people in my class and I can’t wait for lessons to start! My anxiety went through the roof for a bit but I got through! I’m lucky enough to have a really fun job with amazing and supportive coworkers who helped me get through the worst of my anxiety (even if they didn’t/don’t know it!) I’m kind of sad I won’t be working at my job as much as I used to, and I’m going to be so crazy busy from now on, but it’ll all be worth it in the end, I’m sure.
Overall, I feel really happy at the moment. Everything is just kinda falling into place and I’m sure there will be some struggles down the road, but knowing I have the right mindset eases my anxiety a lot.
Book Haul
We’ve got another month of “did I really get this many books!?” Whelp, yes. We do! I’m not even sure if I put all my hauled books on the list. Oops! Anyway, I finally got myself a hardback copy of
I managed to get two arcs this month! The first one was These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch through Edelweiss for the blog tour, and I requested A Curse So Dark & Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer on Netgalley, which I then got! I really can’t wait to read it.
Finally, I somehow hauled three audiobooks. Say what?! I barely remember how it happened but I guess I was just browsing Audible and found Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas on sale and I got it. I know I already own the eBook and the hardcover, but my series reread isn’t going as fast as I’d like it to go and if I listen to the audiobooks during my daily commute, it’ll speed up! A little while later I got lucky again. I needed a distraction

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. I still have a
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I probably (or hopefully?) won’t be too busy in my first week of college, so I can finish listening to The Cruel Prince. It’s not a super long audiobook, so if I spend at least half of my travel time listening to it, I should be able to finish it within the first week.
A Curse So Dark & Lonely by Bridig Kemmerer. I always struggle a bit with super early ARCs because sometimes I lose interest just before release and I struggle reading it, but I’m excited about this one and I’ve decided to read it early. It’s also a nice break from my ToG reread!

I’m keeping my TBR small from now on because I don’t want to pressure myself into reading when I’ve got no time to actually do so. My experience with audiobooks is that sometimes I fly through them, and other times it just takes me a while. I guess we’ll have to wait and see! College officially starts tomorrow and to my utter surprise, I’m really chill about it! I’m hoping tomorrow will be a good day.
